CALCUTTA RACES

AUTUMN  MEETING, SECOND DAY, SUNDAY, 30TH OCTOBER, 2011

Penetrometer Reading : 1.8 Cms  : Good Going.

False rails were in position from about 1200 metres to about 400 metres.

 

1st RACE (1) THE ALTENBURG HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 00-25, which were stationed in Kolkata as on 12.07.2011 (About) 1100 Metres (12.15/12.15) :  8 runners

 

            REAMS OF GOLD (App Vikash Tamang) and PERINDA (Vinay Jaiswal) were fractious in their respective stalls.

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that SCORSESE returned bleeding from both nostrils.  Tr. Rodrigues Jr. was advised not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that REAMS OF GOLD returned with a bleeding cut injury on its mouth.

 

2nd RACE (2) THE PURE VALOUR HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 00-25 (About) 1600 Metres (12.45/12.45) : 7 runners

 

            QUENTIN DERWARD (M Maseyk), ELUSIVE THOUGHT (C Alford) and NATIONAL QUEEN (S Sunil) were fractious while being stalled.

 

            HARNESS FREE (Russell Xaviers) which was slow to begin, momentarily drifted outwards on jumping out of the gates.

 

            EARL OF WARWICK (Salim Khan) which was slow to begin trailed the field home.  In view of its performance Tr. Vikash Jaiswal was informed not to accept with his charge until shown to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a mock race.

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that ELUSIVE THOUGHT and NATIONAL QUEEN returned bleeding from  both nostrils.  Trs. Vijay Singh and Javed Khan were informed not to accept with their respective charges until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

3rd RACE (3) THE CHITRALEKHA HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible – (About) 1600 Metres (1.15/1.17) : 6 runners

 

            Approaching the 1000 metres in a tightly packed field ACCESSOR (App Shezad Khan) galloping on the far side was inconvenienced when DANUBE VALLEY (Shailesh Shinde) momentarily shifted ‘outwards’. 

 

            Jockey I Khan, the rider of FLAMINGO FANTASY, reported that on entering the straight his left leg momentarily slipped out from the stirrup iron.

 

            Jockey Md Islam, the rider of LOCAL WARRIOR, was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for the excessive use of the whip on his mount (1st offence).

 

4th RACE (4) THE RIVER MELODY HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1400 Metres (1.45/1.45) : 7 runners

 

            ROYAL BLUE STAR (C Alford) and REGAL BEARING (Vinay Jaiswal) were fractious while being stalled.

 

            BLUE MOUNTAIN (App Md Sameer) was slow to begin losing approximately four lengths at the start.  Tr. Vikash Jaiswal was advised not to accept with his charge until passed fit in a barrier trial during the hours of morning track work.

 

            Jockey N S Parmar, the rider of MAMA MOREMBO, when questioned as to the reason why he failed to improve his position between the 700 and 300 metres of the race when he had ample opportunity to do so, was unable to give any satisfactory explanation.  The Stipendiary Stewards expressed their displeasure to Jockey N S Parmar in the presence of Mr. Shyam S Habbu, the trainer of the horse and informed the rider that in this instance he was being severely reprimanded, however, repetition of a similar manner of riding would entail him to disciplinary action and advised  Tr. Shyam S Habbu that his charges should be ridden in such  manner that leaves no room for query.

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that ROYAL BLUE STAR returned with a bleeding cut injury on its right hind.

 

            At an enquiry into the riding of App Vikash Tamang on his mount b g STALKER, Mr. Patrick Quinn the trainer of the gelding and Mr. F A Rodrigues, the master trainer to the apprentice were interviewed.  At the conclusion of the enquiry the Apprentice was found guilty to the charge of incompetent riding (Rule 161(ii) in that for reasons unexplained the apprentice repeatedly lost his balance and consequently his rhythm in the final 400 metres of the race thereby putting his mount to a disadvantage.   The Stewards when deciding on the penalty took into consideration the opinion expressed by M/s. Patrick Quinn,  F A Rodrigues (Jr), his record, points of mitigation and decided to suspend App Vikash Tamang from riding in races on 12th, 19th and 26th November, 2011 for incompetent riding and advised him to report to Mr. N Bird, the Jockey Coach for appropriate corrective measures.  Further he was informed of his right to appeal

 

5th RACE (5) THE REGAL EMPRESS HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1100 Metres (2.15/2.17) : 7 runners

 

            ROB N ROB (C Alford) was fractious while being stalled.

 

            AUCKLEY (Vinay Jaiswal) which was slow to begin  jumped awkwardly outwards from the gates.

 

            ACCARDO (App Vikash Tamang) and BAYBERRY (App Md Sameer) were slow to begin.

 

            Passing the distance post VACHERON (I Khan) under pressure drifted outwards.

 

            Passing the distance post  App Vikash Tamang, the rider of ACCARDO, momentarily dropped his left rein.

 

6th RACE (6) THE STAR SELECTION HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible, which were stationed in Kolkata as on 12.07.2011 – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1200 Metres (2.45/2.47) : 7 runners

 

CEE FOUR (App Vikash Tamang) was slow to begin.

 

Soon after jumping out of the starting gates ASKAREL (C Alford, drawn 3)  and ANDEANA (Md. Shabbani, drawn 4) received various degrees of interference when ENTREPRENEUR (M Maseyk, drawn 1) jumped awkwardly ‘outwards’.  At a subsequent enquiry it was established  that the incident was accidental, as such no further action was taken beyond cautioning Jockey M Maseyk to be more cautious in future when jumping out of the starting gates.

 

 

Passing the distance post CEE FOUR (App Vikash Tamang) under pressure drifted ‘outwards’.

 

Jockey M Maseyk, the rider of ENTREPRENEUR, reported that his mount was inclined to run ‘out’ throughout the race.  Tr. J Stephens was advised to take corrective measures before accepting with his charge again.

 

The Veterinary Officer reported that ASKAREL returned bleeding from both nostrils.  Tr. Vijay Singh was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

7th RACE (7) THE BANGALORE TURF CLUB TROPHY – A Handicap for Horses Rated 80 & above, Rated 60-85 eligible (About) 1200 Metres (3.15/3.17) :  5 runners

 

            ROMANTIC IMPACT (Shailesh Shinde) was fractious while being stalled.

 

8th RACE (8) THE LOVE IS BLIND HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 60-85, Rated 40-65 eligible (About) 1100 Metres (3.45/3.45) : 7 runners

 

For failing to produce the registered colours at the scale in respect of his charge FIORUCCI, Tr. J Stephens was fined a sum of Rs. 325/-, subsequently ‘ALL BLACK’ emergency colours were permitted to be used.

 

            Some distance after the start ALACRITY (Md Islam, drawn 2), OYSTER COVE (App Shezad Khan, drawn 3) and ROYAL SAGA (Shilesh Shinde, drawn 6 ) received various degrees of interference when CHIEF JUSTICE (Vinay Jaiswal, drawn 1) shifted ‘outwards’.  At a subsequent enquiry Jockey Vinay Jaiswal  pleaded guilty for failing to make sufficient effort to keep his mount on a straight course and  consequently was fined a sum of Rs. 2,000/-.

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that OYSTER COVE returned with a bleeding cut injury on left hind.

 

9th RACE (9) THE AMONG MEN HANDICAP - A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible, which were stationed in Kolkata as on 12.07.2011 – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1100 Metres (4.15/4.16) : 8 runners

 

            At the request of Tr. Sarfaraz Khan, ch f MY FAIR LADY, a declared starter in the above race, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to be lame on right fore.  Under the circumstances the filly was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.  Tr. Sarfaraz Khan was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

            PETALOID (C Alford) was fractious while being stalled.

 

G E N E R A L

 

  1. Random testing for the presence of alcohol in respect of Jockeys J Gurung,  Salim Khan and App Md Sameer was carried out and found to be clear.

 

  1. Urine samples.  Urine samples from the following horses were taken for clinical analysis :-
