MONSOON  MEETING, THIRD DAY, TUESDAY, 26TH JULY, 2011

1st RACE (15) THE MAID OF ATHENS HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 00-25, which have raced at least twice in Kolkata during the Cold Weather Season 2010-2011 and not won till date – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1400 Metres (2.00/2.00) : 6 runners

 

            Approaching the 800 metres PROMISED GLORY (I Khan) travelling along the rails was inconvenienced by PERINDA (S Amjad Khan) who was carried inwards by GIRL OF FLOWERS (Surjeet Singh).  At a subsequent enquiry Jockey Surjeet Singh accepted that his carelessness was the reason for the  incident.  The Stipendiary Stewards informed Jockey Surjeet Singh to report to Mr. N W Bird, the Jockey Coach to be suitably advised.

 

            Jockey Gajender Singh, the rider of INCANTATION which led the field to the home turn, was reprimanded for galloping two horses wide of the running rails for no apparent reason.

 

2nd RACE (16) THE OWN ABILITY HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 00-25 – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1000  Metres (2.30/2.37) :  8 runners

 

b m FLAMING LOVE (Afzal Hossain) was very fractious in its stall thereby sustaining cut injuries on both hind.    Under the circumstances the mare was withdrawn with the permission of the Stewards before coming under Starter’s orders.  Tr. R Alford was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Sr. Veterinary Officer.  The Starting Stall Certificate of FLAMING LOVE has been revoked by the Starter.

 

SMILES (Md Imran) was fractious in its stall, backed out and was stalled once again.

           

            VIKING VALOUR (M F Ali Khan) was slow to begin.

 

            LEONIDAS (S Amjad Khan) was slow to begin losing approximately three lengths at the start.  Tr. Shafiq Khan was advised to give his charge adequate gate practice before accepting with it again.  The trainer was further cautioned for sending his charge late to the starting gate thereby delaying the start of the race.

 

            Jockey Pradeep Kumar, the rider of EBONY PRINCESS, was severely reprimanded for failing to maintain a straight course in the final 300 metres of the race.  He was reminded by the Stipendiary Steward that he had been repeatedly advised to exercise greater control over his mounts when placing them under pressure and informed that  if he  continued to ride in a similar manner he would be reported to the Stewards for suitable action.  Further he was advised to report to Mr. N W Bird, the Jockey Coach for appropriate corrective measures.

 

3rd RACE (17) THE MOON FAIRY HANDICAP – For Maiden Horses 3 years old only – Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible – (About) 1200 Metres (3.00/3.10) : 8 runners

 

            TATTOO (J Gurung) and MAGICAL STAR (M A Gallagher) were fractious while being stalled.

 

            DIVINE SYMPHONY (Shailesh Shinde) was fractious in its stall and was slow to begin losing considerable ground at the start.  Tr. Ms. Arti Doctor was informed not to accept her charge until passed fit in a  barrier trial.

 

            BHIMA (Md Imran, drawn 2) which was slow to begin was soon after inconvenienced by RAINBOW COLOUR’S (M Mark, drawn 1) and MAGICAL STAR (M A Gallagher, drawn 3) who jumped  ‘outwards’ and ‘inwards’ respectively.

 

            Jockey J Gurung, the rider of TATTOO, reported that his saddle shifted back approaching the 300 metres, as such he was unable to ride his mount to complete advantage and on passing the winning post he lost balance and fell off his mount.  Tr. Vijay Singh was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for faulty saddling of his charge.

 

            App Vikash Tamang, the rider of CEE FOUR, was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for the undesirable practice of repeatedly looking back in the final 300 metres of the race.

 

            Jockey Shailesh Shinde, the rider of DIVINE SYMPHONY, reported that he lost his whip soon after the start was effected.

 

4th RACE (18) THE  CONTRALTO HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses 5 years old and over, Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1100 Metres (3.30/3.40) : 11 runners

 

            BLUE MOUNTAIN (Salim Khan) was slow to begin.

 

            Some distance after the start AUCKLEY (Imran Khan) was checked by its jockey and lost considerable ground when MANEGE (B Mahesh) shifted ‘inwards’.  At a subsequent enquiry Jockey B Mahesh pleaded guilty to the charge of careless riding and was fined a sum of Rs. 2,500/- for shifting ground ‘inwards’ when not adequately clear of the other runner.

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that   DEVILITTO returned bleeding from both nostrils (2nd incident with in one year).  Tr. D Karki was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Sr. Veterinary Officer.

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that MANEGE returned with bleeding cut injury on its right hind.

 

5th RACE (19) THE KILTOI HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible (About) 1400 Metres (4.00/4.16) : 12 runners

 

ACCESSOR (App Shezad Khan) which was fractious in its stall  backed out and was stalled once again.

 

            FLYING WONDER (I Khan) and KAMAKAZI (Pradeep Kumr) were slow to begin.

 

            Jockey Md. Islam, the rider of b m THE GORDIAN KNOT, when afforded an opportunity to explain the running and riding of his mount, stated that in the final 400 metres of the race his mount failed to respond adequately to his repeated urgings and hence he did not persist with his urgings in the concluding stages of the race.  The mare was impounded for veterinary examination.  On examination the Sr. Veterinary Officer reported that no abnormality was found.  Tr. Mr. Vikash Jaiswal was informed to keep his charge under observation and report ailment, if any.

 

            Tr. Shafiq Khan when questioned regarding the improved performance of his charge dk b g SHERSHAH as compared to its previous run in Race No. 7 run on 12th  July, 2011 where it placed 9th,   stated that :-

 

a)                  In Race No. 7 the gelding after a long lay off had run with a better class of horses and was ridden by an apprentice whose capabilities are wanting.

b)                  In this instance the gelding was facing the starter with a run under its belt and in the company of lower rated horses, further it was now ridden by a jockey with much better capabilities, as such, it performed better.

 

The Stipendiary Stewards while noting his explanations, informed the trainer that in future he                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              should ensure that his charges run with the degree of fitness which would ensure consistency between the runs and that he should be more judicious while selecting jockeys.

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that MESMERIZER (Shailesh Shinde) returned with a cut injury on its left fetlock region.

 

6th RACE (20) THE BROWN WOLF HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 60-85, Rated 40-65 eligible (About) 1200 Metres (4.30/4.50) : 9 runners

7th RACE (21) THE JUJUBE HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses 5 years old and over, Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible (About) 1100 Metres (5.00/5.30) : 10 runners

 

 

            AXIOLOGY (App Md. Sameer) arrived late to the starting gate thereby delaying the start of the race.

 

            b g FOCUS (B Mahesh) was very fractious and despite repeated attempts refused to be stalled.  Under the circumstances the gelding was withdrawn with the permission of the Stewards before coming under Starter’s orders.  The Starting Stall Certificate of FOCUS has been revoked by the Starter.

 

            FISH PILOT (M A Gallagher) stumbled soon after jumping out of the gates.

 

            Approaching the 800 metres FISH PILOT (M A Gallagher) travelling along the rails was checked by its rider and lost ground when SECRET WHISPERS (App Shezad Khan)  shifted ‘inwards’.  At a subsequent enquiry App Shezad Khan  was fined a sum of Rs. 2,500/- for careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift ‘inwards’ when not adequately clear of the other runner.  Further, the apprentice was advised to report to Mr. N W Bird, the Jockey Coach for appropriate advice.

 

            App Mohit Singh, the rider of SOLID SUCCESS, was reprimanded for failing to maintain a straight course in the final 200 metres of the race.

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that APOSTROPHE returned with a cut injury on its right hind canon.

 

G E N E R A L

 

1.         The Stewards Royal Calcutta Turf Club imposed a suspended fine of Rs. 8,000/- on Tr. J Stephens for accepting the following horses trained by him to run in races as mentioned against each whilst under mediation :-

            QUENTIN DERWARD                                   -           The Moon Fairy Handicap.

            HORSE RADDISH                              -           The Contralto Handicap

            ENTREPRENEUR                               -           The Brown Wolf Handicap

            REBELLIOUS                                     -           The Jujube Handicap.

 

            Subsequently the above horses were permitted to be withdrawn with the        permission of the Stewards.

 

2.                  Random testing for the presence of alcohol in respect of Jockeys B Mahesh, S Amjad Khan, M A Gallagher and App Ajoy Roy was carried out and found to be clear.

 

3.                  Urine Samples.  Urine samples from the following horses were taken for clinical analysis :-

            ALL THAT JAZZ                    -           2nd Race.

            CEE FOUR                              -           3rd Race.

            VIGNET                                  -           4th Race.

            KING’S DESIRE                     -           6th Race.
