CALCUTTA RACES

CHRISTMAS MEETING, SIXTH DAY, SATURDAY, 24TH DECEMBER, 2011

Penetrometer Reading : 1.3 Cms, Good Going.

 

1st RACE (91) THE GRAND MADAME HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible (About) 2000 Metres (12.15/12.15) : 5 runners

 

STAR SUCCESS (Imran Khan) and SILVER GUEST (C Alford) drifted ‘outwards’ under pressure in the concluding stages of the race.

 

At the conclusion of an enquiry that was opened immediately after the race into the running and riding of b f MAMA MOREMBO, ridden by Jockey N S Parmar and trained by Mr. P Shroff,  Tr. Shyam S Habbu, deputizing for Tr. P Shroff, when queried as to the riding instructions to the jockey N S Parmar stated that he was advised by Tr. P Shroff to instruct the jockey to lead the field  soon after the start and to do his best thereafter  (the same was intimated to the Stipendiary Stewards by Tr. P Shroff through e-mail prior to the running of the race).  He opined that he was disappointed with the filly’s performance and could give no explanation.  The Stipendiary Stewards impounded the filly for clinical analysis and advised Tr Shyam S Habbu to keep the filly under observation and report ailment, if any.

 

2nd RACE (92) THE SANS PAREIL HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible (About) 1200 Metres (12.45/12.46) : 5 runners

 

            ch g KINSHASA, a declared starter in the above race, was examined by the Veterinary Officer on the morning of Saturday, 24th December, 2011 and found to be lame on right fore.  Under the circumstances the gelding was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.  Tr. D M David was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

            WHISTLING STRAIT (App Ajoy Roy) was fractious while being stalled thereby delaying the start of the race.

 

3rd RACE (93) THE STATELY DON PLATE – For Maiden Horses 2 years old only (About) 1400 Metres (1.15/1.17) : 9 runners

 

            IMPRESSIVE WIN (Vinay Jaiswal) was fractious while being stalled thereby delaying the start of the race.

 

            PROMISSORY NOTE (A M Tograllu) which was slow to begin trailed the field home.  In view of its performance Tr. Javed Khan was informed not to accept with his charge until capable of a better performance and  was shown to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a barrier trial during the hours of morning track work.

 

            Passing the distance post ABUBBLE (C Alford) and STUPID CUPID (Shailesh Shinde) under pressure drifted ‘outwards’.        

 

4th RACE (94) THE ALASKAN HANDICAP – Div I – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible (About) 1100 Metres (1.45/1.45) : 11 runners

 

            Jockey Carlos Henrique failed to arrive in time to fulfill his riding engagement due to a delay in his flight schedule,  hence Tr. Bath was permitted to substitute Jockey Aadesh Kumar  to ride his charge SABBATH.

 

            AIRLEAS (Neeraj Rawal) and KINGSTON (App Arman Khan) were fractious while being stalled.

 

            VICTORY ROAD (Afzal Khan) planted and took no practical part in the race.  In view of its behavior Tr. Shafiq Khan was informed not to accept with his charge until shown to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a mock race.  The Starting Stall Certificate of VICTORY ROAD has been revoked to the Starter. 

 

            SABBATH (Aadesh Kumar), FASCINATING (M Maseyk) and  DEVILITTO (A M Tograllu) were slow to begin.

 

            DEVILITTO (A M Tograllu) was denied a clear run between the 600 and 400 metres  due to the crowding of the field.

 

5th RACE (95) THE DASHO LHENDUP DORJI MEMORIAL TROPHY – A Handicap for Horses Rated 60-85, Rated 40-65 eligible (About) 1200 Metres (2.15/2.15) : 12 runners

 

ROB N ROB (App Shezad Khan) was fractious while being stalled.

 

Some distance after the start SUPERIOR QUEST (B Gurang) which was racing fiercely inconvenienced POLES APART (C Alford) and FIORUCCI (M Maseyk) travelling on the far side when  shifted ‘outwards’ by its rider to avoid clipping the heels of the front runners.

 

ch g ROB N ROB (App Shezad Khan) ran detached from the field.  On examination the Veterinary Officer reported that the gelding returned lame with  a cut injury on right hind.  Tr. H S Bath was informed not to accept with his charge until passed fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

6th RACE (96) THE CALCUTTA OAKS (2011)(GRADE III) – For Indian Fillies 3 years old only (About) 2400 Metres (2.45/2.50) : 7 runners

 

            SECRECY (C Alford) and  TWO IN ONE (Shailesh Shinde) were fractious while being stalled.

 

             Passing the distance post PEDIGREE NICK (P Trevor) was momentarily inconvenienced when TWO IN ONE (Shailesh Shinde) shifted ‘inwards’ under pressure.   Jockey Shailesh Shinde was reprimanded for not maintaining a straight course.

 

7th RACE (97) THE GEN A S VAIDYA MEMORIAL TROPHY – A Handicap for Horses Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible (About) 1400 Metres (3.15/3.25) :  7 runners

 

            b g AVON CREEK (I Khan) arrived late to the start thereby delaying the start of the race.  Further the gelding drifted to the outer portion of the race track during the final 400 metres of the race.  Tr. Mr. D M David was advised to take appropriate corrective measures on both counts before accepting with his charge again.

 

8th RACE (98) THE ARMY CUP – For Horses 4 years old and over (About)  1400 Metres (3.45/3.52) : 10 runners

 

            For declaring  wrong weight in respect of his charge BORN TO FLY, Tr. D R Byramji was fined a sum of Rs. 500/- .

 

            As Jockey C Alford was declared medically unfit to ride, Tr. Vijay Singh was permitted to substitute Jockey B Mahesh to ride his charge SILVER FOX.

 

            EL TROPICO (N S Parmar) was slow to begin losing approximately two lengths at the start.

 

            Approaching the 1000 metres SAMARKHAND (A M Tograllu) was carried ‘outwards’  by CARIBBEAN QUEEN (P Trevor).

 

            Passing the distance post BORN TO FLY (Neeraj Rawal) was inconvenienced when EL TROPICO (N S Parmar) shifted ‘inwards’.

 

9th RACE (99) THE ALASKAN HANDICAP – Div II - A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible (About) 1100 Metres (4.15/4.24) : 10 runners

 

            BENJAMIN (Salim Khan) and PEPPERMINT (Gajender Singh) were slow to begin.

 

            RAFFLES  (App Ajoy Roy) which was very fractious in its stall, stumbled as the start was effected and dislodged its rider.  In view of its behaviour Tr. Vijay Singh was advised to give his charge adequate gate practice before accepting with it again.

 

            Jockey Aadesh Kumar, the rider of LAKE SUNRISE,  reported that his mount was inclined to run ‘out’ through out the race.

 

            CHERISH THE MOMENT (Sk Israil) drifted to the outer portion of the race track during the final stages of the race.

 

G E N E R A L

 

1.             Random testing for the presence of alcohol in respect of Jockeys Martin J Dwyer,  S Zervaan,  Carlos Henrique, Afzal Khan and App Zarar Alam was carried out and found to be clear.

 

2.             Urine samples.  Urine samples from the following horses were taken for clinical analysis :-

 

MAMA MOREMBO                                                                  -           1st Race.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT, PEDIGREE NICK and TWO IN ONE     -           6th Race
