4th RACE (110) THE ARMED FORCES HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible which have run at Kolkata having completed the course since 12th July 2011 and have not won a race at any centre since that date – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1400 Metres (3.15/3.15) : 7 runners

Some distance after the start, in a slow run race OAKDALE (N S Parmar) was checked by its rider to avoid clipping the heels of STAR WAGER (M Maseyk).  FLYING WONDER (App Mohit Singh) travelling directly behind OAKDALE was consequently checked by its rider.  Since the incident was accidental no further action was taken beyond noting the incident.

Passing the distance post FLYING WONDER (App Mohit Singh) under the whip drifted ‘outwards’ and finished the race on the outer portion of the race track.  App Mohit Singh was advised to report to Mr. N Bird, the Jockey Coach, for appropriate corrective measures.

Tr. Bharath Singh when afforded an opportunity to explain the running of his charges OAKDALE (N S Parmar) and STAR WAGER (M Maseyk) stated that with reference to OAKDALE, he had instructed the jockey to be positioned 3rd/4th in the early and middle stages of the race and thereafter to do his best.  He was disappointed with the filly’s  performance and was of the opinion that the slow pace in the early and middle stages of the race may have contributed to her poor performance as  the jockey fought against her in his endeavour to follow the instructions.  The trainer also informed that Jockey Parmar was of the opinion that the filly required to be raced over a shorter distance.  With regard to the performance of STAR WAGER he was pleasantly surprised with the victory as the stable did not fancy its chances to win and he opined that this was the third run of the gelding in its career and it seemed to relish the longer distance as compared to the distance of its previous race.  The Stipendiary Stewards while noting the explanations tendered by the trainer, informed him to ensure that  his horses perform with a degree of consistency.

5th RACE (111) THE PENTAGON TROPHY – For Horses 4 years old and over (About) 1200 Metres (About) 1200 Metres (3.45/3.45) : 4 runners

Jockey N S Parmar, the rider of CARIBBEAN QUEEN, reported that soon after jumping out of the gates SAMARKHAND (B Mahesh) shifted ‘inwards’ causing him to check his mount.  The jockey also reported that  his saddle slipped back soon after the start as a result he could not ride out his mount to complete advantage.  Tr. P Shroff was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for faulty saddling.

An enquiry has been opened into the riding of Jockey B Mahesh (SAMARKHAND) in that soon after the start he rode his horse ‘inwards’ for no apparent reason thereby causing CARIBBEAN QUEEN (N S Parmar) to check and lose ground and thereafter while negotiating the final bend when CARIBBEAN QUEEN was making progress on his outside, he rode his mount ‘outwards’ for no apparent reason thereby inconveniencing and carrying CARIBBEAN QUEEN momentarily wide.  The result of this enquiry will be informed at a later date.

Approaching the 900 metres DADDY COOL (Shailesh Shinde) travelling along the rails was squeezed for room by PRECIOUS (App Md. Sameer).  App Md. Sameer was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater control over his mounts in future and to report to Mr. N Bird, the Jockey Coach for appropriate corrective measures.

Passing the distance post DANUBE VALLEY (App Shezad Khan) drifted to the outer portion of the race track.

7th RACE (113) THE AMAR JAWAN HANDICAP - A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1000 Metres (4.45/4.50) : 10 runners

Approaching the distance post ARACENA (N S Parmar) drifted to the outer portion of the race track causing MRS JONES (Russell Xaviers) travelling on its outside to be checked by its rider.  Consequently I VE DONE IT (Nelson Maseyk) travelling behind MRS JONES also had to be checked by its rider to avoid running into its heels.

Jockey Nelson Maseyk, the rider of I VE DONE IT reported that he lost his whip approaching the 300 metres.
