CALCUTTA RACES

WINTER MEETING,  SIXTH  DAY MONDAY, 23RD  JANUARY, 2012

1st RACE (141) THE STAR CONTENDER HANDICAP A Handicap for Horses Rated 00-25 (About) 2000 Metres (12.45/12.45) : 5 runners

 

            ADIYNARA (App Ajoy Roy) and LEONIDAS (Imran Khan) were fractious while being stalled.

 

            Jockey Imran Khan, the rider of b g LEONIDAS,  when afforded an opportunity to explain the running of his mount stated that he was instructed  to be positioned 3rd/ 4th and to do his best on entering the straight.  However, due to the slow pace in the early and middle stages of the race he found himself positioned further back than he intended to and on entering the straight despite his best efforts the gelding failed to respond adequately.     The Stipendiary Stewards after repeatedly viewing the CCTV replay in the presence of the jockey informed him that in this instance he was being given the benefit of doubt and should he in future ride in a similar manner, he would be charged for injudicious riding.  Tr. Shafiq Khan was informed of the Stipendiary Stewards opinion and was advised to be explicit while instructing his riders in future.   The gelding was impounded for veterinary and clinical examinations.  On examination the Veterinary Officer reported that no ailment was noticed.  The trainer was advised to keep his charge under observation and report ailment, if any.

 

2nd RACE (142) THE ECHOES OF LIGHT HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 00-25 (About) 1400 Metres (1.15/1.16) : 12 runners

 

            At the request of Tr. Bharath Singh dk b m SEACHANGE, an acceptor in the above race was examined by the Veterinary Officer on 21st January, 2012 and found to lame on left hind.  Under the circumstances the mare was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.  Tr. Bharath Singh was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

            EROS (Akshay) and NATIONAL QUEEN (S Domingo) were fractious while being stalled thereby delaying the start of the race.

 

            EROS (Akshay) reared up as the start was effected losing approximately 3 to 4 lengths.  Tr. D M David was advised to give his charge adequate gate practice before accepting with it again.   

 

            PYTHAGORAS (B V Krishnan, drawn 8) jumped awkwardly ‘outwards’ from the gates and inconvenienced ROXY (A M Tograllu, drawn 9).

 

3rd RACE (143) THE CALORESCENCE HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible (About) 2000 Metres (1.45/1.45) : 4 runners

 

            At the request of Tr. D M David ch g SILVER GUEST, an acceptor in the above race was examined by the Veterinary Officer on 22ND  January, 2012 and found to lame on left fore.  Under the circumstances the gelding was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.  Tr. D M David was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

4th RACE (144) THE ALLIED FORCES PLATE – For Maiden Horses 3 years old only (About) 1200 Metres (2.15/2.15) :  7 runners

 

            JAILHOUSE ROCK (Afzal Khan) was slow to begin losing approximately two lengths at the start.

 

 

            IRISH CONNECTION (I Chisty) jumped awkwardly from the gates momentarily unbalancing its rider.

 

            JAILHOUSE ROCK (Afzal Khan) trailed the field home.  Tr. Shafiq Khan, deputizing for Tr. Sarfaraz Khan was informed not to accept with his charge until it was capable of a better performance.

 

DECCAN PRINCESS (P Trevor) was squeezed for room approaching the 700 metres and lost some ground due to a tightly packed field.

 

5th RACE (145) THE P P GINWALA (Jr) MEMORIAL TROPHY – A Handicap for Horses Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible (About) 1100 Metres (2.45/2.46) : 8 runners

 

            Approaching the 700 metres LAKE SUNRISE (Aadesh Kumar) was checked by its rider and lost ground when attempting to make progress between ALIZE (Asghar) and BLUEGRASS (C Rajendra).

 

6th RACE (146) THE INDIAN CHAMPION CUP (Grade I) – For Horses 4 years old and over (About) 2000 Metres (3.15/3.15) : 8 runners

 

            b g RIP VAN WINKLE (I Chisty) was eased by its jockey approaching the 400 metres.  On immediate examination after the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that the gelding returned bleeding from both nostrils.  Tr. D Byramji was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

7th RACE (147) THE M B MEDHORA TROPHY – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible (About) 1100 Metres (3.45/4.18) :12 runners

 

            At the request of Tr. Jasbir Singh b m KAYADHU, an acceptor in the above race was examined by the Veterinary Officer on 20th  January, 2012 and found to lame on right hind.  Under the circumstances the mare was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.  Tr. Jasbir Singh was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

            MOMENT OF LOVE (App Zarar Alam) was slow to begin.

 

8th RACE (148) THE REPUBLIC TROPHY – A Handicap for Horses Rated 60-85, Rated 40-65 eligible (About) 1200 Metres  (4.15/4.18) : 10 runners

 

            b g  ASHWA PAARTH (I Chisty) was very fractious and refused to be stalled.  Under the circumstances the gelding was withdrawn with the permission of the Stewards before coming under Starter’s orders.  The Starting Stall Certificate of the gelding has been revoked by the Starter.

 

            Approaching the 900 metres MISSION CHIEF (Vinay Jaiswal) making progress on the far wide was carried wide by  GLORIOUS INVENTION (Shezad Khan).  At a subsequent enquiry Jockey Shezad Khan was shown the CCTV replay of the race and was reprimanded for failing to maintain a proper course.

 

            CROWN RULE (Anthony Crastus) was inclined to hang in during the concluding stages of the race.

 

G E N E R A L

 

1.             Random testing for the presence of alcohol in respect of Jockeys C Rajendra, Asghar, B Mahesh and S Domingo was carried out and found to be clear.

 

 

 

1.                  Urine samples.  Urine samples from the following horses were taken for clinical analysis :-

 

LEONIDAS                                                                           -           1st Race.

ARISEN STAR                                                                      -           2nd Race.

DANDIFIED, UNLEASHED and CAMORRA                  -           6th Race.

 

5.         Mercy Petition dated 18th January, 2012 of App Mohit Singh to the Stewards with respect to their order dated 20.10.2011 denying him the use of the whip. The Stewards, RCTC, at their meeting held on 18th January, 2012 decided to grant permission to App Mohit Singh for use of the whip with effect from 1st February, 2012.  However, the remaining period of withdrawal of whip i.e. 1st February to 31st March, 2012 will be kept in suspension and the same be imposed should he breach the rules governing  the use of whip in the interim period.
