MONSOON  MEETING, TWENTY SECOND DAY, TUESDAY 18TH OCTOBER, 2011

Penetrometer Reading : 1.1 Cms  : Good Going.

False rails were in position from about 1100 metres to about 400 metres.

 

1st RACE (147) THE STAY IN SHAPE HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 00-25, which have run at Kolkata having completed the course since 12th July, 2011 and have not won a race at any centre since that date – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1200 Metres (2.15/2.15) : 8 runners

 

REAMS OF GOLD (Surjeet Singh) and THREATONE (Shailesh Shinde) were fractious while being stalled.

 

            MELODY BELLE (C Alford) and THREATONE (Shailesh Shinde) jumped awkwardly out from the gates.

 

            The near side winkers attached to the cheek piece of the bridle placed on b f ILLUMINATI (Afzal Khan) fell off approaching the 800 metres.  Tr. Shafiq Khan was advised to be more careful regarding the fitting of equipment on his charges in future.

 

            Approaching the 800 metres MELODY BELLE (C Alford) was carried wide by THREATONE (Shailesh Shinde).

 

            Passing the distance post MELODY BELLE (C Alford) under pressure  drifted to the outer portion of the race track.

 

            STAR SHIP (M Maseyk) ran detached from the field.  Tr. Bharath Singh was informed not to accept with his charge until shown to the Stipendiary Stewards in two mock races.

 

            Jockey C Alford, the rider of MELODY BELLE, was fined a sum of Rs.  3,000/- for excessive use of the whip on his mount (2nd offence) and reprimanded for dropping his hands before passing the winning post.

 

2nd RACE (148) THE MATCHBOX HANDICAP - A Handicap for Horses Rated 00-25 – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 2000 Metres (2.45/2.45) : 8 runners

 

            LEONIDAS (Afzal Khan) was fractious while being stalled.

 

            PERINDA (N S Parmar) was slow to begin losing approximately two lengths at the start.

 

            Approaching the 900 metres PERINDA (N S Parmar) travelling along the rails was checked by its jockey when squeezed for room by CORSICA (Gajender Singh) travelling on its outside.

 

Jockey Shailesh Shinde, the rider of EARL OF WARWICK, reported the loss of  his whip approaching the 300 metres.

 

The Veterinary Officer reported that SECRET HERO returned lame on its left fore.  Tr. Vikash Jaiswal was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

3rd RACE (149) THE PRINCE BLOSSOM HANDICAP - A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated  00-25 eligible, which have run at Kolkata having completed the course since 12th July, 2011 and have not won a race at any centre since that date –(About) 1400 Metres (3.15/3.15) : 8 runners

 

            On the morning of Monday, 17th October, 2011, the following horses accepted to run in the above race were examined by the Veterinary Officer and reports submitted as under :-

            VENCE                                    -           Lame on right fore.

            THUNDER QUEEN                -           Stiff on hind quarter.

 

 

            Under the circumstances the above horses were withdrawn on veterinary grounds.  Trs. Javed Khan and R Alford were informed not to accept with their respective charges until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

            GORSHKOV (Pintu Das) was slow to begin.

 

            Tr. Vijay Singh when afforded an opportunity to explain the improved performance of his charge ch g DANUBE VALLEY as compared to its previous run in Race No.  140 run on 12th October, 2011 and Race No. 112 run on 24th September, 2011, stated  that the gelding had its maiden run on 24th September, 2011 where it started the race tardily and raced green.  Thereafter it ran much better in Race No. 140 run over a distance of 1100 metres held on 12th October, 2011 and indicated that it would perform  better if raced over a longer distance. Taking that run into account the horse was entered in today’s race as it was run over 1400 metres and declared his stable jockey to ride the gelding.  His explanation was noted.

 

            An enquiry has been opened into the running and riding of GORSHKOV, trained by Mr. C Gleich and ridden by Jockey Pintu Das.

 

4th RACE (150) THE FREELANCER HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible (Abou) 1400 Metres (3.45/3.45) :  8 runners

 

            SOLID SUCCESS (Md. Imran), DANCE IN CHINA (C Alford) and PERSERVERANCE (I Khan) were slow to begin.

 

            SWISS KING (Vinay Jaiswal) was carried wide by SOLID SUCCESS (Md Imran)  while rounding the bend.

 

            Passing the distance post PERSERVERANCE (I Khan) was inconvenienced when CEE FOUR (App Vikash Tamang) travelling along the rails drifted ‘outwards’.  At a subsequent enquiry App Vikash Tamang was shown the CCTV replay of the race and was severely reprimanded for  failing to exercise proper control over his mount.  He was advised to report to Mr. N Bird, the Jockey Coach, for appropriate corrective measures.

 

5th RACE (151) THE ANTICIPATOR HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 60-85, Rated 40-65 eligible (About) 1800 Metres (4.15/4.15) :  8 runners

 

            TINTORETTO (App Mohit Singh) was fractious in its stall.

 

            AAMAR KAKU (Md Islam) was slow into its stride.

 

            ROCKET BALL (App Arman Khan) and TINTORETTO (App Mohit Singh) were slow to begin.

 

            ACCESSOR (App Shezad Khan) brushed against the railings approaching the 900 metres.

 

            Approaching the 800 metres dk b m ANDEANA (Vinay Jaiswal) brushed against the railings when squeezed for room due to a tightly packed field.

 

            TINTORETTO (App Mohit Singh) drifted to the outer portion of the rack track approaching the 400 metres.

 

            An enquiry is opened into the performance of TINTORETTO trained by Mr. D M David as compared to its run in Race No. 118 run  on 27th September, 2011.

 

6th RACE (152) THE ANDRADA HANDICAP - A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1100 Metres (4.45/4.50) :  12 runners

 

            BRAVO ITALIANO (Vinay Jaiswal), PINE VALLEY (Shailesh Shinde) and BREAK THE HABIT (Gajender Singh) were very fractious in their respective stalls.

            BRAVO ITALIANO (Vinay Jaiswal) stood flat footed as the start was effected and thereafter swerved violently ‘inwards’ and crashed into the inner rails dislodging its jockey.  A Stewards enquiry was held immediately after the running of the race with particular reference to the fall of Jockey Vinay Jaiswal and his mount BRAVO ITALIANO.  The Stewards being satisfied that the fall was accidental and that no blame could be attached to anyone, ordered  the ‘all clear’ signal to be hoisted.   No embargo was placed  on the gelding as it would be retiring from racing.

 

            PINE VALLEY (Shailesh Shinde) was slow to begin losing approximately 3 lengths at the start.  Tr. Vikash Jaiswal was advised to give his charge adequate gate practice before accepting with it again.

 

            BREAK THE HABIT (Gajender Singh) jumped awkwardly out from the gates.

 

            In the concluding stages of the race SUMANGALA (Imran Khan) was inconvenienced when SUGAR ‘N’ SALT (M Maseyk) drifted ‘inwards’.  At a subsequent enquiry Jockey M Maseyk was shown the CCTV replay of the race and  was reprimanded for not exercising greater control over his mount.

 

            BREAK THE HABIT (Gajender Singh) having its maiden outing drifted to the outer portion of the race track while rounding the bend.

 

G E N E R A L

 

1.         Random testing for the presence of alcohol in respect of Jockeys M Maseyk,  P Trevor, App Arman Khan and App Shezad Khan was carried out and found to be clear.

 

2.         Urine samples.  Urine samples from the following horses were taken for clinical analysis :-

            LEONIDAS                                         -           2nd Race.

            GORSHKOV                                       -           3rd Race.

            SATSUMA STAR                                -           5th Race.

 

3.         On the morning of Wednesday, 19th October, 2011, MISTY ISLES was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to have sustained cut injury on its right fore.
