CALCUTTA RACES

CHRISTMAS MEETING, FOURTH DAY, SATURDAY, 17TH DECEMBER, 2011

Penetrometer Reading : 1.4 Cms  : Good Going.

 

1st RACE (74) THE OBLIGADO HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 00-25 (About) 1600 Metres (12.45/12.45) : 11 runners

 

OCEAN ELEMENT (Asghar) and AB IST OMEN (Afzal Khan) were slow to begin.

 

LOUGHERNE (Aadesh Kumar) jumped awkwardly ‘inwards’ from the starting gate.

 

Jockey B Mahesh, the rider of dk b f SPEED ANGEL, was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for the excessive use of whip on his mount (1st offence) and further a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for the indiscriminate use of the whip i.e., without giving the filly time to respond.

 

Jockey Surjeet Singh, the rider of AGNATION, was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for excessive use of the whip on his mount (1st offence) and was reprimanded for not maintaining a straight course in the final 300 metres of the races.

 

Jockey A M Tograllu, the rider of NATIONAL QUEEN, and Jockey N S Parmar, the rider of OUR LITTLE ANGEL, reported the loss of their whips approaching the 300 metres.

 

2nd RACE (75) THE FAME STAR PLATE – For Maiden Horses 2 years old only (About) 1100 Metres (1.15/1.17) : 8 runners

 

            FIRST COLOURS (A Sandesh) and ZIP ZAP ZOOM (Vinay Jaiswal) were fractious in their respective stalls.

 

            Approaching the 600 metres FIRST COLOURS (A Sandesh) making progress along the rails was checked by its rider and lost some ground when accidentally brushing against the railings.

 

            Passing the distance post ATWATER (C Alford) drifted to the outer portion of the race track.

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that FIRST COLOURS (A Sandesh) returned with a cut injury on brisket region.

 

3rd RACE (76) THE  CALCUTTA JUVENILE STAKES – For Horses 2 years old only (About) 1100 Metres  (1.45/1.45) : 3 runners

4th RACE (77) THE YEREVAN HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible (About) 1400 Metres (2.15/2.16) : 13 runners

 

            WHISPERING HILLS (Aadesh Kumar) was fractious in its stall.

 

            GIRL OF FLOWERS (Surjeet Singh) was slow to begin.

 

Tr. Patrick Quinn, deputizing for Tr. Vinayak, when afforded an opportunity to explain the running of  b f WHISPERING HILLS, stated that he had instructed the jockey to take the filly  to the front of the field  as that was her usual style of running and informed the Stipendiary Stewards that similar instructions would  be given in future.  The Stipendiary Stewards noted his explanation.

 

5th RACE (78) THE CHIOS HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 60-85,  Rated 40-65 eligible (About) 1400 Metres (2.45/2.45) : 8 runners

 

            AWESOME INDIAN (P Trevor) was fractious in its stall.

 

            CROWN RULE (Stephane Pasquier), was observed to have a tendency to ‘lay in’ during the final 300 metres of of the race.

 

            App Mohit Singh, the rider of ch h SECRET WHISPERS, reported that in spite of his urgings in the early and middle stages of the race his mount was not inclined to respond, however, in the final 400 metres of the race the horse performed satisfactorily.

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that AWESOME INDIAN and SOKUDO returned bleeding from both nostrils.  Tr. Bharath Singh was instructed not to accept with his charges until passed fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

6th RACE (79) THE P C LALL OF NAZARGUNJ MEMORIAL CUP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 80 & above, Rated 60-85 eligible (About) 1400 Metres (3.15/3.15) :  9 runners

 

            On entering the straight AMOURESQUE (A Sandesh) was inconvenienced when TENDER ROMANCE (C Alford) shifted ‘outwards’. 

 

7th RACE (80) THE NANOLI STUD CALCUTTA GOLD CUP (GRADE II) – For Horses 3 years old and over (About) 1600 Metres (3.45/3.46) : 10 runners

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that ANGELO returned bleeding from both nostrils.  Tr. D M David was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

8th RACE (81) THE DANCING COLOURS HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible (About) 1200 Metres (4.15/4.17) : 11 runners

 

            SEA OF KISSES (B Gurang) was slow to begin losing approximately two lengths at the start.  At a subsequent enquiry Jockey B Gurang was shown the CCTV replay of the race and  severely reprimanded for not being alert at the start.

 

            SOLID SUCCESS (M Krishna) was slow to begin losing approximately two lengths at the start.

 

            Approaching the 600 metres SKY GLIDER (A M Tograllu) travelling along the rails was checked by its rider and lost ground when BAVARIA (Dashrath Singh) was carried inwards by ZOFFANY (N S Parmar).  At a subsequent enquiry Jockey N S Parmar was shown the CCTV replay of the race and severely reprimanded for not maintaining a straight course.  He was further cautioned for failing to maintain a straight course in the final 300 metres of the race  and advised to report to Mr. N Bird, the Jockey Coach for appropriate guidance.

 

G E N E R A L

 

1.             Random testing for the presence of alcohol in respect of Jockeys Stephane                                                                                                                                                                                                      Pasquier,  A Sandesh, M Krishna, B Sreekanth and App B Srinivas Rao was carried out and found to be clear.

 

2.             Urine samples.  Urine samples from the following horses were taken for clinical analysis :-

LOUGHERNE                                                    -           1st Race.

ACCREWS                                                         -           3rd Race.

WHAT A FEELING and WHISPERING HILLS -           4th Race.

DANDIFIED, UNLEASHED and OBAN                       -           7th Race.
