At the conclusion of the enquiry into the incident of App Mohit Singh, the rider of b c  ALEXANDER, momentarily losing his balance and stirrup irons in the concluding stages of the race, it was established that the sudden outward drift of the colt was due to the faulty use of the whip by the apprentice.  The Stipendiary Stewards taking into consideration the apprentice’s acceptance of his mistake and his willingness to correct himself in the future did not proceed further in the matter.  In this regard Mr. Mohit Singh was advised to report to Mr. N W Bird, Jockey Coach for appropriate corrective measures.

7th RACE (42) THE THRIFTY ALLAN HANDICAP - A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible (About) 1000 Metres (4.45/5.14) : 12 runners

The Stipendiary Stewards reported Jockeys C Alford, the rider of SABBATH and Surjeet Singh, the rider of AGNATION to the Stewards for careless riding under Rule 161(i) in that some distance after the start Jockey C Alford (drawn 7) rushed his mount ‘inwards’ when not adequately clear of b g RAGING BULL (App Sk Zaffar Riaz) thereby causing the gelding to be severely checked by its rider and lose ground.  Soon after, AGNATION (drawn 2) ridden by Jockey Surjeet Singh shifted ‘outwards’ into the path of KAYADHU (App Mohit Singh) and RAGING BULL causing both horses to be severely checked by their riders.  The Stewards after due enquiry found jockeys C Alford and Surjeet Singh guilty of careless riding (Rule 161(i)).  When deciding on their punishments, the Stewards took into consideration the record of the jockeys, points of mitigation, the severity of  interference and decided to suspend Jockeys C Alford and Surjeet Singh from riding in races on 30th August, 2011.  Both jockeys were informed of their right to appeal.

7th RACE (42) THE THRIFTY ALLAN HANDICAP - A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible (About) 1000 Metres (4.45/5.14) : 12 runners

At the conclusion of an enquiry into the improved performance of b g BRAVO ITALIANO, trained by Mr. Vikash Jaiswal and placed 2nd by the Judge in the above race as compared to its previous run in Race No. 18 when ridden by the same jockey where it ran unplaced,  the Stipendiary Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Tr. Vikash Jaiswal, which was that in Race No. 18, though being unplaced by the Judge, the gelding performed exceedingly well, in that it was up with the then leaders of the race till the final stages.  This fact was authenticated in the TV replay of that race.  Further, the addition of cross nose band on the gelding in this race may have been to its advantage.

CALCUTTA RACES

MONSOON  MEETING, SEVENTH DAY, SATURDAY, 13TH AUGUST, 2011

5th RACE (47) THE CALCUTTA JUVENILE SPRINT  For Horses 3 years old only, (About) 1100 Metres (3.45/3.57) : 4 runners

At the conclusion of an enquiry into the running and riding of b c DANDIFIED trained by Mr. Vijay Singh and ridden by Jockey C Alford, the Stipendiary Stewards accepted the respective explanations tendered by the Trainer and Jockey  which were that :-

a)                  The trainer had instructed Jockey C Alford to place his mount in a position of advantage after taking into consideration the early positioning of ELENA and PETALOID and thereafter to do his best.

b)                  It was the trainer’s opinion that DANDIFIED was a bit lethargic at the start, and its rider, after allowing it collect itself,  rode the colt to complete advantage.

c)                  The jockey corroborated the statements of the trainer and added that it was because of the extremely wet going that he did not place the horse under pressure immediately  after jumping out of the gates.

Further the Stipendiary Stewards informed Jockey C Alford that he should in the future ride his mounts in a fashion that leaves no room for query.
