CALCUTTA RACES

MONSOON  MEETING, FOURTEENTH DAY, WEDNESDAY, 14TH SEPTEMBER, 2011

 

There was heavy down pour during the running of the 2nd, 3rd & 4th races of the day.

Penetrometer Reading : 1.2 Cms  : Good Going for the 1st race and

thereafter good to soft

False rails were in position from about 1200 to about 400 metres

 

1st RACE(94) THE ACCUSER HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses 5 years old and over  Rated 00-25 – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1200 Metres (2.15/2.15) : 8 runners

 

            b m ALEXA (D K Ashish) planted  losing considerable ground at the start.  In view of its behavior Tr. C Gleich was informed not to accept with his charge until shown to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a mock race.

 

            App Mohit Singh, the rider of  OCEAN DANCER, was fined a sum of Rs. 3,000/- for excessive use of the whip on his mount (2nd offence).

 

2nd RACE (95) THE NIGHTJAR HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible (About) 1200 Metres (2.45/2.55) : 6 runners

 

            Jockey B Mahesh, the rider of b g ASKAREL, reported that due to the heavy down pour the visibility was poor and as such he was unable to ride his mount to complete advantage.  He also opined that the gelding did not respond adequately to his urgings due to the rain. 

 

            App Mohit Singh, the rider of MUST BE MAGIC, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift ‘outwards’ passing the distance post.  Subsequently  the apprentice was advised to report to the Jockey Coach for appropriate corrective measures.

 

3rd RACE (96) THE MOUNTAIN LILY HANDICAP – For Maiden Horses 3 years old only – Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1400 Metres (3.15/3.27) : 7 runners

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that STORMICA returned with a cut injury on its right hind.  Tr. I Sait was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

4th RACE (97) THE GREEN SARI HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible (About) 1400 Metres (3.45/3.58) : 8 runners

 

            As Jockey Sk Israil was declared medically unfit to ride, Tr. Bharath Singh was permitted to substitute Jockey Gajender Singh to ride his charge RIVER DIVINE.

 

            WHISTLING STRAIT (C Alford) and  ALEXANDER HELIOS (App B Srinivas Rao) were fractious while being stalled.

 

            RIVER DIVINE (Gajender Singh) and ALEXANDER HELIOS (App B Srinivas Rao) were slow to begin losing approximately two lengths at the start.

 

            Jockey I Khan, the rider of APYROUS, reported that the tongue strap fitted on his mount  slipped off at the start.

            During the running of the race it was observed that the surcingle  of SECRET WHISPERS (D K Ashish) got unfastened.

 

            Jockey C Alford, the rider of dk b f WHISTLING STRAIT, when afforded an opportunity to explain the running of his mount stated that he was asked to place his mount in a forward position in the early and middle stages of the race and to do his best thereafter.  However, passing the 400 metres despite his continuous urgings the filly failed to accelerate and finished off the race at the rear of the field.  He opined that the filly was not striding out comfortably.    Tr. Vijay Singh when asked for his opinion regarding the poor performance of his charge offered no plausible  explanation.  The horse was impounded for veterinary examination and on examination no ailment was reported.  Tr. Vijay Singh was advised to keep his charge under observation and report ailment, if any.

 

            App Shezad Khan, the rider of QUEEN VIC, was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for excessive use of the whip on his mount (1st offence).

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that SECRET WHISPERS and  QUEEN VIC returned with bleeding cut injury on the right nostril and left fore respectively.

 

5th RACE (98) THE SWEET SENORITA TROPHY – A Handicap for Horses Rated 80 & Above, Rated 60-85 eligible (About) 1200 Metres (4.15/4.30) : 6 runners

NIL

 

6th RACE (99) THE MALAVIKA HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1800 Metres (4.45/5.09) :  12 runners

 

            Tr. Bharath Singh was fined a sum of Rs. 2,000/- for failing to obtain the prior consent of Jockey Dashrath Singh to declare him on his charge SADDLE CHIEF.  Subsequently, the trainer  was permitted to substitute Jockey D K Ashish in place of Jockey Dashrath Singh.

 

            LET HER DANCE (App Vikash Tamang) was resaddled at the start.

 

            SADDLE CHIEF (D K Ashish) and GLORIOUS DANCER (App Shezad Khan) were slow to begin.

 

G E N E R A L

 

1.         Random testing for the presence of alcohol in respect of Jockeys D K Ashish, Nelson Maseyk, App Md. Sameer and App B Srinivas Rao was carried out and found to be clear.
