MONSOON  MEETING, TWENTY FIRST DAY, THURSDAY, 13TH OCTOBER, 2011

No False rails were in position

 

1st RACE (141) THE SUPER SUNRISE HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1200 Metres (2.15/2.15) :  7 runners

 

            ROYAL BLUE STAR (Neeraj Rawal), ROXY (Md Islam) and BLUE MOUNTAIN (D K Ashish) were slow to begin.

 

            Some distance after the start REQUITE (M Maseyk) travelling on the rails was checked by its rider when ROXY (Md Islam) was carried ‘inwards’ by FLYING JAGUAR (App Vikash Tamang).  App Vikash Tamang was severely reprimanded for not maintaining a straight course and advised to report to Mr. N Bird, the jockey coach for corrective measures.

 

2nd RACE (142) THE DOMINATE HANDICAP – For Maiden Horses 3 years old only - Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1100 Metres (2.45/2.45) :  8 runners

 

            ROCK THE STARS (C Alford) and QUENTIN DERWARD (Russell Xaviers) were fractious in their respective stalls.

 

            ROCK THE STARS (C Alford) was slow to begin.

 

            LAKE STORM (P Trevor) and PRECIOUS (Md Imran) were slow to begin losing approximately two lengths at the start.

 

            Some distance after the start ROCK THE STARS (C Alford) clipped the heels of QUENTIN DERWARD (Russell Xaviers) and stumbled.  At a subsequent enquiry Jockey Russell Xaviers pleaded guilty for the charge of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift inwards when not adequately clear of the other runner and was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/-  for this lapse.

 

            Passing the distance post PASSION ‘N’ FLAMES (M Mark) and LAKE STORM (P Trevor) under pressure drifted ‘outwards’.

 

            App Shezad Khan, the rider of PRICELESS PEARL,  reported that he lost his whip in the final 100 metres of the race.

 

            Tr. H S Bath when questioned regarding the improved performance of  b f PRICELESS PEARL, the winner of this race,  as compared to its previous run in Race No. 106 run on 21st September, 2011 where it finished unplaced could offer to plausible explanation other than that the filly had participated after a set back in training in Race No. 106 and seems to have improved since then.  The Stipendiary Stewards informed Tr. Bath that he must ensure that his charges perform with the degree of consistency between runs failing which he would be liable for such action as deemed fit.

 

3rd RACE (143) THE ANNIHILATOR HANDICAP - A Handicap for Horses Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1200 Metres (3.15/3.16) : 8 runners

 

            b g ALEXANDER HELIOS (N S Parmar) stood flat footed losing considerable ground  at the start.  In view of its behaviour Tr. D Byramji was informed not to accept with his charge until passed by the Starter in a barrier trial during the hours of morning track work.

 

4th RACE (144) THE NO REGRETS TROPHY – A Handicap for Horses Rated 80 & above, Rated 60-85 eligible (About) 1200 Metres (3.45/3.45) : 10 runners

 

            ROYAL DANCE (App Vikash Tamang) was slow to begin.

 

            Soon after the start ZILLONAIRE (Y S Srinath) and STAR IMPACT (Russell Xaviers) were inconvenienced when FLY BY WIRE (Afzal Hossain) shifted ‘inwards’.  Jockey Afzal Hossain was reprimanded for not exercising greater control over his mount soon after jumping out of the gates. 

 

            b g ROYAL DANCE (App Vikash Tamang) which was slow to begin made quick progress to lead the field approaching the 700 metres.  In doing so the gelding came across the path of ZILLONAIRE (Y S Srinath) causing it to be checked by its rider and loose some ground.  At a subsequent enquiry Jockey Y S Srinath and App Vikash Tamang were interviewed by the Stipendiary Stewards and App Tamang was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for changing course when not adequately clear of the other runner and Jockey Y S Srinath was severely reprimanded for the manner in which he expressed his displeasure to App Vikash Tamang in the jockey’s room.

 

            Jockey P Trevor, the rider of CAYENNE,  reported that the saddle on his mount shifted back approaching the 400 metres as a result he was unable to ride his mount to complete advantage.  Tr. Bharath Singh was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for faulty saddling.

 

            Tr. J Stephens when questioned regarding the improved performance of his charge b g STAR IMPACT, the winner of this race,  as compared to its previous run in Race No. 133 run on 7th October, 2011 where it finished unplaced, stated that  he was pleasantly surprised with the victory of the gelding and  could offer to plausible explanation for the improved performance.    The Stipendiary Stewards informed Tr. J Stephens that he must ensure that his charges perform with the degree of consistency between runs failing which he would be liable to such action as deemed fit.

 

.5th RACE (145) THE MONSOON CUP – For Horses 4 years old and over (About) 2000 Metres (4.15/4.16) : 6 runners

 

            For failing to declare correct weight in respect of his charge RISING HERO, an acceptor in the above race, Tr. Patrick Quinn was fined a sum of Rs. 500/-.

 

            As Jockey Y S Srinath was declared medically unfit to ride, Tr. Patrick Quinn was permitted to substitute Jockey D K Ashish to ride his charge RISING HERO.

`

            ARKTOUROS (C Alford) and HALL OF GLORY (M F Ali Khan) were slow to begin.

 

            Approaching the 900 metres UNLEASHED (Neeraj Rawal) brushed against the rails when squeezed for room.  At a subsequent enquiry Jockey D K Ashish, the rider of RISING HERO, was reprimanded for not exercising adequate control over his mount thereby allowing it to lean on to UNLEASHED.

 

            Jockey D K Ashish, the rider of  RISING HERO, reported that he lost his whip approaching the 600 metres.

 

6th RACE (146) THE STAR PHOENIX HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 60-85, Rated 40-65 eligible (About) 1400 Metres (4.45/4.50) : 11 runners

 

            As Jockey Y S Srinath was declared medically unfit to ride, Tr. Ms. Arti Doctor was permitted to substitute Jockey M F Ali Khan to ride his charge SILKEN DANCER.

 

            A Stewards enquiry was held immediate after the running of the race with particular reference to the fall of Jockey D K Ashish, the rider of ALACRITY, soon after the start.  The Stewards being satisfied that the fall was accidental and that no blame could be attached to anyone, ordered  the ‘all clear’ signal to be hoisted.

 

G E N E R A L

 

1.         Random testing for the presence of alcohol in respect of Jockeys Afzal Hossain, N S Parmar, Russell Xaviers and Md Shabbani was carried out and found to be clear.

 

2.         Urine samples.  Urine samples from the following horses were taken for clinical analysis :-

            PRICELESS PEARL                                                    -           2nd Race.

            STAR IMPACT                                                            -           4th Race

 

3.      On the morning of Friday, 14th October, 2011, the following horses were examined by the Veterinary Officer and reports submitted as under :-

 

            ACCARDO                                                      -           Sound.

            OYSTER COVE & REQUITE                         -           Cut injury on both hinds.

            ROYAL DANCE                                             -           Cut injury on right hind.

ADDITIONAL REPORT

CALCUTTA RACES

MONSOON  MEETING, EIGHTEENTH DAY, SATURDAY, 1ST OCTOBER, 2011

 

5th RACE (125) THE STEWARDS’ TROPHY – For Horses 4 years old and over (About) 1400 Metres (3.45/3.50) : 6 runners

 

At the conclusion of the Stewards enquiry  held after the last race into the excessive use of the whip (3rd offence) by App Mohit Singh on his mount ch g REGAL CLASSIC,   App Mohit Singh  was interviewed by the Stewards in the presence of his master trainer Mr. Jasbir Singh and pleaded guilty to the charge.  The Stewards resolved to suspend App Mohit Singh from riding in races on 29th & 30th October, 2011 for the excessive use of the whip on his mount.
