CALCUTTA RACES

MONSOON  MEETING, FIRST DAY, TUESDAY, 12TH JULY, 2011

 

The start of the race was delayed by 37 minutes due to the malfunction of the Tote.  Consequently the other races were also delayed.

 

1st RACE (1) THE FAIR RAY HANDICAP –  A Handicap for horses Rated 00-25 – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1200 Metres (2.00/2.37) : 7 runners

 

            FIT FOR FRAY (Haroon Khan) was fractious while being stalled.

 

            SPANISH SAHARA (Imran Khan) and FIT FOR FRAY (Haroon Khan) were slow to begin.

 

            Approaching the 900 metres ALPINE COUNT (App Vikash Tamang) positioned between ROB N ROB (App Shezad Khan) and GLENBERVIE (Vinay Jaiswal) stumbled when clipping the heels of SPANISH SAHARA (Imran Khan).    Jockey Imran Khan was cautioned to be more careful in future when shifting ground.

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that SPANISH SAHARA returned with several bleeding cut injuries on its right hind.

 

2nd RACE (2) THE AMBERDUE HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 00-25, which have raced at least twice in Kolkata during the Cold Weather Season 2010-2011 and not won till date – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1000 Metres (2.30/3.14) : 11 metres

 

            MISSION CONTROL (Haroon Khan) was slow to begin losing approximately two lengths at the start.

 

            LET HER DANCE (App Vikash Tamang) under pressure kept an erratic course in the final 200 metres of the race.

 

            Passing the distance post GLORIOUS DANCER (C Alford) was checked by its jockey and lost considerable ground when ORIENTAL MAGIC (App Md Sameer) shifted ‘inwards’ across its path.  At a subsequent enquiry App Md Sameer pleaded guilty to the charge of careless riding and was fined a sum of Rs. 2,500/- for the lapse.

 

3rd RACE (3) THE BACHELOR’S WEDDING HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligibe – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1200 Metres (3.00/3.45) : 9 runners

 

            At the request of Tr. Ms. Arti Doctor, ch f  LUNAR QUEST, a declared starter in the above race was examined by the Sr. Veterinary Officer on the morning of 12th July 2011 and was found to be lame on her left hind.  Under the circumstances the filly was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.  Tr. Ms. Arti Doctor was advised not to accept with her charge until certified fit by the Sr. Veterinary Officer.

 

            AVON CREEK (B Gurang) and LOCAL WARRIOR (Sameer Khan) were slow to begin.

 

            Passing the distance post GLORIOUS INVENTION (C Alford) drifted ‘outwards’ under pressure and momentarily inconvenienced MUST BE  MAGIC (App Mohit Singh).

 

            App Ajoy Roy, the rider of CREDIT SWAP, when afforded an opportunity to explain the running and riding of his mount, stated that he was unable to ride his mount to complete advantage in the final 500 metres of the race due to his saddle shifting towards the near side of the horse.   On immediate examination it was found that the saddle was otherwise well fitted,  as such no action was taken beyond noting the incident.

 

4th RACE (4) THE WOOLVER VALLEY HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible, which have raced at least twice in Kolkata during the Cold Weather Season 2010-2011 and not won till date – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1000 Metres (3.30/4.18) : 11 runners

 

            STALKER (Pintu Das) veered ‘outwards’ as the start was effected, unbalancing its rider and ran detached from the field in the early and middle stages of the race .  In view of its behavior  Tr. Patrick Quinn was informed not to accept with his charge again until shown to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a mock race.

            SUPREME ATTRACTION (App Pradeep Kumar) jumped awkwardly from the gates.

 

            App Pradeep Kumar, the rider of SUPREME ATTRACTION, was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for the excessive use of the whip (1st offence).

 

5th RACE (5) THE LA GITANA HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 60-85, Rated 40-65 eligible (About) 1000 Metres (4.00/4.47) : 8 runners

 

            ENTREPRENEUR (M Maseyk) was slow to begin losing approximately four lengths at the start.  Tr. J Stephens was advised to give his charge adequate gate practice before accepting with it again.

 

6th RACE (6) THE FINALIST HANDICAP – For Maiden Horses 3 years old only, Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible (About) 1000 Metres (4.30/5.23) : 10 runners

 

            b g WELCOME SMILE (Shailesh Shinde) was very fractious and despite repeated attempts refused to be stalled.  Under the circumstances the gelding was withdrawn with the permission of the Stewards before coming under Starter’s orders.  The Starting Stall Certificate of WELCOME SMILE has been revoked by the Starter.

 

            Soon after jumping out of the gates CEE FOUR (App Vikash Tamang) made contact with MEHZABEEN (App Rajesh Ujgare).

 

            Jockey Irfan Ali, the rider of gr f SECRET ATTACK, was severely reprimanded for the use of the whip on his mount when it was clearly out of contention.

 

7th RACE (7) THE CHERRY HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible (About) 1000 Metres (5.00/5.53) : 10 runners

 

            b g ROYAL DANCE (Md. Islam) drawn 8 damaged its stall while being fractious.  Under the circumstances the gelding was re-stalled in Gate No. 11.

 

            SHERSHAH (App Rajesh Ujgare) was slow to begin losing approximately two lengths at the start.

 

            BADAL (App Vikash Tamang) ran detached from the field.  Tr. Vikash Jaiswal  was informed not to accept with his charge until it was capable of a better performance.

 

            Jockey Md. Imran, the rider of SOLID SUCCESS, was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for excessive use of the whip (1st offence) and a further sum of Rs. 1,000/- for the excessive force he used when striking his mount with the whip.

 

G E N E R A L

 

1.         Random testing for the presence of alcohol in respect of Jockeys B Gurang, M Mark, Nelson Maseyk and   App Ajoy Roy was carried out and found to be clear.

 

2.         Urine samples.  Urine samples from the following horses were taken for clinical analysis :-

            SILKEN DANCER                              -           4th Race.

            CEE FOUR                                          -           6th Race.

            BLUE GRASS                                     -           7th Race.
