SPRING MEETING, FIRST DAY, SATURDAY, 11TH FEBRUARY, 2012

1st RACE (164) THE RED FM CUP – A Handicap for Horses 5 years old and over, Rated 00-25 – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1400 Metres (1.15/1.15) : 14 runners

 

            REQUITE (Melvyn Maseyk) was re-saddled at the start.

 

            BLUE MOUNTAIN (Vinay Jaiswal) and OCEAN ELEMENT (Aadesh Kumar) were slow to begin.

 

            Soon after the start ARISEN STAR (Shezad Khan, drawn 2) was inconvenienced when  CHERISH THE MOMENT (App Arman Khan, drawn 3) jumped awkwardly ‘inwards’.

 

            Approaching the distance post CHERISH THE MOMENT (App Arman Khan) which was making progress on the outside was inconvenienced when AGNATION (Surjeet Singh) shifted ‘outwards’.

 

Jockey Melvyn Maseyk, the rider of REQUITE, was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for excessive use of the whip on his mount (1st offence) and reprimanded for failing to maintain a straight course approaching the distance post.  The Jockey was advised to report to Mr. N Bird, the Jockey Coach, for appropriate corrective measures.

 

Tr. Vikash Jaiswal when questioned regarding the improved performance of his charge b m MOMENT OF LOVE as compared to its previous outings in Race Nos. 99, 112, 147 and 156 stated that the change of equipment i.e., Blinkers ‘off’  in all probability was the reason why the mare performed much better and other than that he had no other plausible explanation.  The Stipendiary Stewards noted his explanation.

 

2nd RACE (165) THE THAILAND TROPHY – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 2000 Metres (1.45/1.45) : 6 runners

 

            KING ARTHUR (N S Parmar) and CLASSICAL ROMANCE (P Trevor) were slow to begin losing approximately two lengths at the start.

 

            Jockey N S Parmar, the rider of KING ARTHUR, reported that on jumping out of the gates his mount threw its head up resulting in him sustaining a minor injury to his face.

 

3rd RACE (166) THE H H MAHARAJA JAGADDIPENDRA NARAYAN BHUP BAHADUR OF COOCH BEHAR MEMORIAL CUP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 60-85, Rated 40-65 eligible (About) 1400 Metres (2.15/2.16) :  8 runners

 

SOCIAL NETWORK (Neeraj Rawal) was fractious in its stall.

 

QUEEN VIC (Shezad Khan) was slow to begin losing approximately two lengths at the start..

 

4th RACE (167)  THE  PORTUGAL TROPHY – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1100 Metres (2.45/2.46) : 11 runners

 

            A Stewards enquiry was held immediately after the race with particular reference to the start of the ch g FANKAAR (App Mohit Singh, drawn 2).  At the conclusion of the enquiry the Stewards were satisfied that due to a mechanical failure the gelding received an unfair start and as such the gelding was declared a non starter under Rule 154.

 

            Passing the 700 metres FAIRY GIRL (P Trevor) making progress on the inside was inconvenienced by BLAZING SPECTACLE (B Gurang) which while racing fiercely kept an erratic course when steadied by its jockey.

 

APOSTROPHE (Md Shabbani) under pressure drifted ‘outwards’ in the final stages of the race.

 

 

 

 

5th RACE (168) THE METROPOLITAN – A Handicap for Horses Rated 80 & above, Rated 60-85 eligible (About) 1200 Metres (3.15/3.16) : 10 runners

 

            Approaching the 700 metres MUST BE MAGIC (App Mohit Singh) and CROWN RULE (P Trevor) making progress on the far side were checked by their respective jockeys and lost some ground when HIGHLAND MUSIC (App Vikash Tamang) shifted ‘outwards’.  At a subsequent enquiry App Vikash Tamang was shown the CCTV replay of the race and fined a sum of Rs. 2,500/- for changing course when not adequately clear of the other runners.

 

6th RACE (169) THE SWEDEN CUP – For Horses 3 years old only (About) 1200 Metres (3.45/3.45) : 8 runners

 

At the request of Tr. Sarfaraz Khan, dk b c JAIL HOUSE ROCK, a declared starter in the above race was examined by the Veterinary Officer and found to be lame on its right fore.  Under the circumstances the colt was permitted to be withdrawn on veterinary grounds prior to the weighing ‘out’ of the jockey.  Tr. Sarfaraz Khan was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

MISTLETOE (I Chisty) was fractious in its stall.

 

NAMURDEE (Shezad Khan) and CIDER WITH ROSIE (N S Parmar) were slow to begin.

 

NAMURDEE (Shezad Khan) ran detached from the field.  Tr. Bath was advised to ensure that his charge is capable of a better performance before accepting with it again.

 

7th RACE (170) THE QUEEN ELIZABETH II CUP (GRADE III) – For Horses 4 years old and over (About) 2800 Metres (4.15/4.16) : 7 runners

NIL

8th RACE (171) THE GERMANY TROPHY – A Handicap for Horses Rated  40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1600 Metres  : 10 runners

 

            dk b f WHISTLING STRAIT was very fractious and refused to be stalled.  Under the circumstances the filly was withdrawn with the permission of the Stewards before coming under Starter’s orders.  The Starting Stall Certificate of the filly has been revoked by the Starter.

 

            SCHWARZENEGGER (App Mohit Singh) was slow to begin losing approximately two lengths at the start.

 

            THE GIANT (App Ajoy Roy) ran detached from the field.  Tr. D Karki was advised not to accept with his charge  until it was capable of a better performance.

 

            Jockey Aadesh Kumar, the rider of b g SEA SHOWER, when afforded an opportunity to explain the running of his mount stated that he was instructed to place the gelding at the rear of the field and to do his best on entering the straight.  Tr Patrick Quinn when interviewed corroborated the instruction given to the jockey.  The Stipendiary Stewards were of the opinion that Jockey Aadesh Kumar failed to make adequate efforts in the early and middle stages of the race to improve his position when he had every opportunity to do so and advised Tr. Patrick Quinn and Jockey Aadesh Kumar that their horses should be run and ridden in such a manner that leaves no room for query.

 

G E N E R A L

 

1.       As Jockey Y S Srinath was declared medically unfit to ride, the following substitution of Jockeys in his place was permitted :-

         

 

          Jockey Aadesh Kumar                           -           SILVER SANDS ( 3rd Race).

          Jockey Neeraj Rawal                              -           ZILLIONAIRE (5th Race)                               

          Jockey Shailesh Shinde                          -           RAZMADEN (7th Race)

 

2.         Random testing for the presence of alcohol in respect of Jockeys C Ruzaan,  P Trevor, Pradeep Kumar and Y S Srinath was carried out and found to be clear.

 

3.                  Urine samples.  Urine samples from the following horses were taken for clinical analysis :-

 

            MOMENT OF LOVE & BLUE MOUNTAIN                                       -           1st Race.

            ROYAL BLUE STAR, RAZNANDAN and RAZMADEN                   -           7th Race.
