MONSOON  MEETING, TWELFTH   DAY, SATURDAY, 10TH SEPTEMBR, 2011

1st RACE (80) THE RICHIE RICH HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 00-25 (About) 1100 Metres (1.45/1.46) : 8 runners

 

            b f  ILLUMINATI (Imran Khan) and ch f MISSION CONTROL (App Mohit Singh) were slow to begin losing considerable ground at the start.  In view of their behavior, Trs. Shafiq Khan and Jasbir Singh were informed not to accept with their respective charges until shown to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a mock race.

 

            App Ajoy Roy, the rider of EMERALD QUEEN was reprimanded for failing to exercise control over his mount thereby allowing it to drift to the outer portion of the race track passing the distance post.

 

            App B Srinivas Rao, the rider of THUNDER QUEEN which ran detached from the field, was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for the repeated use of the whip on his mount when it was clearly out of contention.  Further Tr. R Alford was informed not to accept with his charge until it was capable of a better performance.

 

2nd RACE (81) THE  BRUSH ASIDE HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible (About) 1100 Metres (2.15/2.20) : 10 runners

 

            IMPERIAL DELIGHT (C Alford) was fractious while being stalled.

 

            In the concluding stages of the race BLOOD RAYNE (Md Islam) was squeezed for room when SUCCESSFUL (App Mohit Singh) shifted ‘outwards’ and LAKE SPIRIT (Md Imran) shifted ‘inwards’ under pressure.

 

            ch m SEA BEAUTY (M Maseyk) dropped out of contention approaching the final bend and was eased ‘up’ by its rider who dismounted passing the distance post.  On examination the Veterinary Officer reported that the mare returned lame on its right fore.  Tr. Bharath Singh was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

3rd RACE (82) THE COURT MINSTREL HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible (About) 1200 Metres (2.45/2.55) : 5 runners

 

            ch g ANDROLOGY (App Md. Sameer) and b g FOCUS (Vinay Jaiswal) were fractious and refused to be stalled.  Under the circumstances the geldings were withdrawn with the permission of the Stewards before coming under Starter’s orders.  The Starting Stall Certificates of ANDROLOGY and FOCUS have been revoked by the Starter.  Tr. Vikash Jaiswal was informed that ch g ANDROLOGY’s permission to run under the RCTC Rules of Racing has been revoked as the gelding had been a habitual offender..

 

            OPTIMUM PRIDE (App Mohit Singh) was slow to begin losing approximately three lengths at the start.

 

4th RACE (83) THE CALCUTTA FILLIES TRIAL STAKES (2011) – For Indian Fillies 3 years old only (About) 1400 Metres (3.15/3.32) : 8 runners

 

            As Jockey M A Gallaghar was unable to fulfill his riding engagement for the day, Tr. Bath was permitted to substitute Jockey D K Ashish to ride his charge MANHATTAN RAIN.

 

            MANHATTAN RAIN (D K Ashish) arrived late  at the start thereby delaying the proceedings.  Tr. H S Bath was informed that a repeat of a similar delay by any of his runners would entail a monetary fine being imposed on him or his charge being withdrawn from the race.

 

            MARTINIQUE (S Zervaan) was fractious while being stalled.

 

            MAD ABOUT YOU (Shailesh Shinde) was slow to begin.

 

            Jockey Kishore Kadam when afforded an opportunity to explain the running of his mount b f GOLDEN SAGA stated that he was instructed to lead the field in the early and middle stages of the race and thereafter to do his best.  However, on entering the straight the filly did not accelerate despite his repeated urgings and finished off the race detached from the field.  Tr. Shyam S Habbu when questioned could give no plausible explanation for the filly’s poor performance.  The trainer was informed not to accept with his charge until shown to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a mock race.

 

            Jockey S Zervaan, the rider of b f MARITINIQUE, when afforded an opportunity to explain the running of his charge stated that he was instructed to be positioned 2nd in the race and to do his best thereafter.  The jockey further stated that he was well positioned in the early and middle stages of the race and inspite of having a clear run in the final 400 metres the filly did not respond to his urgings.  On questioning, Tr. Shyam S Habbu deputizing for Tr. P Shroff stated that he was disappointed with the performance of the filly and could give no plausible explanation for its poor performance.  The Stipendiary Stewards noted their explanations.

 

5th RACE (84) THE CALCUTTA COLTS TRIAL STAKES (2011) – For Indian Colts & Geldings 3 years old only (About) 1400 Metres (3.45/4.07) : 9 runners

 

            gr c ALIENATION (M F Ali Khan) ran detached from the field.  On examination the Veterinary Officer reported that the colt returned bleeding from both nostrils.  Tr. Shafiq Khan was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that AERATOR (Neeraj Rawal) returned with a bleeding cut injury on its right fore.

 

6th RACE (85) THE CALCUTTA MONSOON SPRINT – For Horses 4 years old and over (About) 1200 Metres (4.15/4.36) :  7 runners

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that SHUB SHUBH returned bleeding from both nostrils.  Tr. Patrick Quinn was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

7th RACE (86) THE GLOTIK HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible (About) 1400 Metres (4.50/5.07) :  11 runners

 

            PINE VALLEY (App Md. Sameer) and REGAL BEARING (Afzal Khan) were fractious while being stalled.

 

            Approaching the 600 metres INCANTO BLISS (App Mohit Singh) making progress on the inside of REGAL BEARING (Afzal Khan) stumbled and lost ground when running into the heels of SARTAJ (Nelson Maseyk).  At a subsequent enquiry no blame could be established on any of the jockeys and as such no action was taken beyond noting the incident.

 

 

G E N E R A L

 

1.         Random testing for the presence of alcohol in respect of Jockeys R Marshall, Y S Srinath, Kishore Kadam and D K Ashish was carried out and found to be clear.

 

2.                  Urine samples.  Urine samples from the following horses were taken for clinical analysis :-

 

            MARTINIQUE and TWO IN ONE              -           4th Race

            DANDIFIED                                                 -           5th Race.

            PALAZZIO’S SUN                                       -           6th Race.
