1st RACE (29) THE METALLIC HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses 5 years old and over – Rated 00-25 (About) 1200 Metres (2.00/2.02) : 8 runners

 

            FIT FOR FRAY (Md Islam) was fractious while being stalled.

 

            Jockey Md Sameer, the rider of SWISS KING, was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for the undesirable practice of repeatedly looking back in the final 400 metres of the race.

 

2nd RACE (30) THE SELECT HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible, which have raced at least twice in Kolkata during the Cold Weather Season 2010-2011 and not won till date (About) 1100 Metres (2.30/2.31) : 7 runners

 

            Jockey S Amjad Khan, the rider of MY FAIR LADY, reported that on jumping out of the gates he momentarily lost his left stirrup iron which he regained shortly afterwards.

 

            ABAYA (Md Islam) drifted to the outer portion of the race track while rounding the bend.  Tr. Javed Khan was advised to take appropriate corrective measures before accepting with it again.

 

            PERSERVERANCE (Md Shabbani) under pressure drifted ‘outwards’ in the final 200 metres of the race.  Jockey Md Shabbani was advised to make every effort to keep his mounts on an even course. 

 

            App Mohit Singh, the rider of b m RITHAMBHRA when afforded an opportunity to explain the running and riding of his mount, stated that he was instructed by the trainer to take his mount on a start to finish mission.  However, the mare began slowly and in spite of his urgings he was unable to follow the trainer’s instructions in the early part of the race.  Thereafter, on entering the straight he eased the mare down to a steady canter as he realized that she was in distress.  On examination the Veterinary Officer reported that the mare returned bleeding from both nostrils.  Tr. Jasbir Singh was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

3rd RACE (31) THE RETORT HANDICAP – For Maiden Horses 3 years old only – Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1100 Metres (3.00/3.03) : 10 runners

 

            PHLOX (Md. Shabbani) was fractious while being stalled.

 

            Some distance after the start ROMANTIC SUNSET  (Neeraj Rawal) and QUENTIN DERWARD (App Shezad Khan) collided with  each other.

 

            App Shezad Khan, the rider of QUENTIN DERWARD, was reprimanded for failing to take the corrective measures when his mount drifted to the outer portion of the race track in the concluding stages of the race.  The apprentice was advised to report to Mr. N W Bird, the Jockey Coach, for appropriate corrective measures.

 

            ROMANTIC SUNSET (Neeraj Rawal) maintained an erratic course in the final 300 metres of the race.

 

            Jockey M F Ali Khan, the rider of SNIPER, reported that at no stage of the race was his mount  responding to his urgings and despite his best efforts it ran detached from the field.  The colt was impounded for veterinary examination and on examination no ailment was noticed. Tr. R Gowli was informed not to accept with his charge until shown to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a mock race.

 

4th RACE (32) THE  TURF HAWK HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible (About) 1800 Metres (3.30/3.30) : 8 runners

 

            ALPINE COUNT (App Vikash Tamang) and TEMPTATION (M Mark) were slow to begin losing approximate two lengths at the start.

 

            Passing the distance post TINTORETTO (App Mohit Singh) under pressure drifted to the outer portion of the race track.

 

            BADAL (App Ajoy Roy) ran detached from the field.  Tr. Vikash Jaiswal was informed not to accept with his charge until shown to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a mock race.

 

            A Stewards enquiry was held after the last race into the running and riding of b c ALPINE COUNT in the above race.  The Stewards interviewed Tr. Patrick Quinn, App Vikash Tamang and master Trainer Mr. F A Rodrigues (Jr).  At the conclusion of the enquiry App Vikash Tamang pleaded guilty to the charge of “incompetent riding (Rule 161(ii)” in that during the early stages of the race he took a hold of his  mount  thereby placing it in a position of disadvantage i.e., approximately 6 to 7 lengths away from the field.  The Stewards, while deciding on the penalty,  took into consideration the record of the apprentice, points of mitigation and decided that Apprentice Jockey Vikash Tamang’s permission to ride in races be withdrawn on 13th , 17th & 23rd August, 2011.  The apprentice is  permitted to ride work during the above period of suspension and was also informed of his right to appeal.    App Vikash Tamang was directed to report to Mr. N W Bird, the Jockey Coach for appropriate corrective measures.  Further, the Stewards resolved to caution :-

 

a)                  Tr. Patrick Quinn to be more explicit with his instructions to an apprentice specially in races which are run over longer distances and to report immediately to the Stipendiary Stewards any discrepancies that he notices in the performance of jockeys.

b)                  Master Tr. F A Rodrigues (Jr) to exercise prudence while granting permission to his apprentices to ride horses which are not trained by him.

 

5th RACE (33) THE FLOWER DUST HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses 5 years old and over, Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1000 Metres (4.00/4.02) : 11 runners

 

            FLAMINGO FANTASY (B Gurang) was slow to begin.

 

            Some distance after the start SMOKIN ACES (S Zervaan) which was marginally slow to begin shifted ‘out’ and bumped REBELLIOUS (M Maseyk) momentarily unbalancing its jockey.

 

            RIVER DIVINE (Asghar) ran detached from the field in the early and middle stages of the race.

 

            Jockey S Rabbani, the rider of STRAUSS, was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for the indifferent handling of his mount in the final 400 metres of the race.

 

            Jockey Imran Khan, the rider of ALIZE, was reprimanded for dropping his hands before passing the winning post though on a beaten horse.

 

6th RACE (34) THE GREAT TRIBUTE TROPHY – A Handicap for Horses Rated 80 & above, Rated 60-85 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1400 Metres (4.30/4.33) : 10 runners

 

            At the request of Trainer Rutherford Alford, b g FLY BY WIRE, a declared starter in the above race, was examined by the Veterinary Officer on the morning of Tuesday, 2nd August, 2011 and found to have developed severe pain on its withers due to a fall in the stable.  Under the circumstances the gelding was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.  Tr. Rutherford Alford was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

 

            Jockey I Khan, the rider of REGAL CLASSIC, was fined a sum of Rs. 500/- for failing to wear the declared coloured cap after having weighed out with the same.

 

            CREDIT SQUEEZE (M F Ali Khan) jumped awkwardly from the starting gates.

 

            Jockey Pradeep Kumar, the rider of dk b h CROCODILE HUNTER, when afforded an opportunity to explain the running of his mount stated that the horse was not striding fluently passing the 800 metres hence he did not place his mount under undue pressure.  The horse was impounded for veterinary examination and on examination the Veterinary Officer reported that no ailment was noticed.  However, Tr. Rutherford Alford was informed to keep his charge under observation and report ailment, if any and not to accept with it until it was capable of a better performance.

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that CAIRNDHU (Md Imran) returned with a bleeding cut injury on its right stifle fold.

 

7th RACE (35) THE NERO HANDICAP – A Handicap for Horses Rated 60-85, Rated 40-65 eligible – To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1400 Metres (5.00/5.03) : 9 runners

 

            WASHINGTON IRVINE (Neeraj Rawal) brushed against the gates as the start was effected dislodging  its rider and completed the course riderless. 

 

            The Veterinary Officer reported that MUMTAZ returned with bleeding  cut injury on its left hind.

 

G E N E R A L

  1. Random testing for the presence of alcohol in respect of Jockeys Gajender Singh, M Mark, App Rajesh Ujgare and App Ajoy Roy was carried out and found to be clear.

 

  1. Urine samples.  Urine samples from the following horses were taken for clinical analysis :-

      SWISS KING and RIVER WARRIOR                    -           1st Race.

      APYROUS and ALPINE COUNT                           -           4th Race.

      REGAL CLASSIC                                                    -           6th Race.

 

  1. On the morning of Wednesday, 3rd August, 2011 the following horses were examined by the Veterinary Officer and reports submitted as under :-

ADDITIONAL REPORT

MONSOON  MEETING, FOURTH DAY, SATURDAY, 30TH JULY, 2011

4th RACE (25) THE WHISPERING GRASS HANDICAP. For Maiden Horses 3 years old only – Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible - To be ridden by Jockeys of Indian Nationality (About) 1400 Metres (3.15/3.20) : 9 runners

 

            At the conclusion of a Stewards enquiry into the incidence of interference received at the 800 metres by CLASSICAL ROMANCE (Shailesh Shinde), HARNESS FREE (M Maseyk) and ARABICA (S Zervaan), Jockey Pradeep Kumar, the rider of ZAKIYAH, pleaded guilty to the charge of careless riding Rule 161(i).  The Stewards when deciding on the penalty took into consideration the record of the Jockey, points of mitigation and decided to suspend him from riding in races on 13th and 17th  August, 2011.  The Jockey is  permitted to ride work during the above period of suspension and also  was informed of his right to appeal.    Jockey Pradeep Kumar was directed to report to Mr. N W Bird, the Jockey Coach for appropriate corrective measures.
