CALCUTTA RACES

WINTER MEETING, FIRST DAY, SUNDAY, 1ST JANUARY, 2012

Penetrometer Reading : 1.4 Cms, Good Going False rails were in position from about 1200 metres to about 400 metres.

1st RACE (100) THE ARDELIS TROPHY  - A Handicap for Horses Rated 60-85, Rated 40-65 eligible (About)  1400 Metres (12.15/12.15) : 5 runners

            QUEEN VIC (App Shezad Khan) was slow to begin.

            Jockey Suraj Narredu, the rider of OAKDALE, when afforded an opportunity to explain the running of his  mount stated that he was instructed to position his mount at the rear of the field and to do his best thereafter and  acknowledged having misjudged the early pace of the race when he found himself further away from the field than he intended to. Trainer Bharath Singh corroborated the jockey’s instructions and informed the Stipendiary Stewards that similar instructions will be given in future. The same was noted.

2nd RACE (101) The indiarace.com TROPHY – For Maiden Horses 3 years old only (About) 1100 Metres (12.45/12.48) :  8 runners

            MAMA’S DELIGHT (M Krishna) jumped out awkwardly from the gates.          

Approaching the 400 metres GLYNNEATH (P Trevor) traveling along the rails lost ground when checked by its rider to avoid clipping the heels of UP AND COMING (I Khan).

 UP AND COMING (I Khan) was observed to run an erratic course in the final 400 metres of the race.

3rd RACE (102) THE RETAINED ASSET TROPHY Div I – A Handicap for Horses Rated 00-25 (About) 1100 Metres (1.15/1.20) : 14 runners

            APPLE CANDY (N S Parmar) planted and took no practical part in the race.  In view of its behavior Tr. Ms. Arti Doctor was advised not to accept with her charge until shown to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a mock race.  The Starting Stall Certificate has been revoked by the Starter.

            BAILAMOS (Surjeet Singh) and Mehzabeen(Imran Khan) were slow to begin.

            Some distance after the start EMERALD QUEEN (App Ajoy Roy) was bumped by BAILAMOS (Surjeet Singh) and lost ground. At a subsequent enquiry Jockey Surjeet Singh was shown the CCTV replay and fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for making no attempt to maintain a straight course.

 4th RACE (103) THE RETAINED ASSET TROPHY Div II – A Handicap for Horses Rated 00-25 (About) 1100 Metres (1.45/1.56) : 14 runners

            b f SILKEN SENORITA (App Zarar Alam) was slow to begin and ran detached from the field in the early stages of the race.  On questioning, App Zarar Alam stated that his mount was not striding fluently thoughout the race. Trainer Patrick Quinn was informed to get his charge examined by the Veterinary Officer and report ailment, if any and not to accept with the filly until shown to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a mock race. 

Some distance after the start OUR LITTLE ANGEL bounced off the inner rails and inconvenienced FANKAAR (M Krishna) making progress on its outside.

Jockey Afzal Hossain, the rider of FLAMING LOVE, reported loss of whip approaching the distance post.

5th RACE (104) THE SOVIET SONG TROPHY – A Handicap for Horses Rated 60-85, Rated 40-65 eligible (About) 1100 Metres (2.15/2.26) : 7 runners

            At the request of Tr. C Gleich, ch h SECRET WHISPERS, a declared starter in the above race, was examined by the Veterinary Officer prior to ‘weighing out’ and found to be stiff on hind quarter.  Under the circumstances the horse was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.  Tr. C Gleich was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

            Some distance after the start ROYAL SAGA (N S Parmar) attempting to make progress between SPECIAL FX (Aadesh Kumar) and SILKEN DANCER (Shailesh Shinde) was checked by its rider and shifted ‘outwards’,  in the process causing interference to GLORIOUS INVENTION (App Shezad Khan). STAR SYMPHONY (Suraj Narredu) was also checked by its rider to avoid running into the heels of GLORIOUS INVENTION.

            The Veterinary Officer reported that STAR IMPACT (B Mahesh) and STAR SYMPHONY (Suraj Narredu) returned bleeding from both nostrils.  Trs. J Stephens and Bharath Singh were informed not to accept with their respective charges until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

6th RACE (105) THE ROMMEL TROPHY – A Handicap for Horses Rated 20-45, Rated 00-25 eligible (About) 1600 Metres (2.45/3.03) : 13 runners

            b g EROS (Vinay Jaiswal) which was very fractious while being led to the starting gates, injured itself and was withdrawn on Veterinary grounds.  Tr. D M David was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

            LEONIDAS (Afzal Khan) was slow to begin.

On jumping out of the gates ROMAN CENTURION (I Khan) (drawn 14) swerved to the outer portion of the race track, thereby losing considerable ground.  In view of its performance Tr. D M David was informed not to accept with his charge until shown to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a mock race.

            Jockey Neeraj Rawal, the rider of b c NOBLE DEFENDER, reported that his mount was inclined to run out through out the race and on entering the straight despite his best efforts it drifted to the outer portion of the race track.  Tr. Vijay Singh was advised to take remedial measures before accepting with the colt again.

            On entering the straight HADRIAN (A M Tograllu) under pressure drifted to the outer portion of the race track.

            Approaching the distance post SILVER GUEST (App Shezad Khan) was checked by its rider and lost ground when attempting a passage between SANSKRITI (N S Parmar) and BEETHOVEN (Imran Khan).

7th RACE (106) THE KUNIGAL STUD INDIAN PRODUCE STAKES – For Horses 3 years old only (About) 1200 Metres (3.15/3.34) : 6 runners

            Approaching the 900 metres STAR ALONE (P Trevor) travelling on the rails was checked by its rider and lost ground when SNOWSCAPE (Neeraj Rawal) shifted inwards when checked by its Jockey to avoid running into the heels of OCEAN WAY(Sk Israil).

Jockey Suraj Narredu, the rider of SILVERINA, was reprimanded for dropping his hands before passing the winning post.

8th RACE (107) THE RCTC GOLD VASE – A Handicap for Horses Rated 80 & above, Rated 60-85 eligible (About) 2200 Metres (3.45/4.07) :  9 runners

            WASHINGTON IRVINE (Neeraj Rawal) under pressure kept an erratic course in the final 300 metres of the race.

            The Veterinary Officer reported that RISING HERO (Imran Khan) returned bleeding from both nostrils.  Tr. Patrick Quinn was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer.

9th RACE (108) THE SOUND OF CHEERS TROPHY – A Handicap for Horses Rated 40-65, Rated 20-45 eligible (About)  1100 Metres (4.15/4.40) : 14 runners

            FLAMINGO FANTASY (I Khan) planted and took no practical part in the race.  Tr. D M David was informed not to accept with his charge until shown to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a mock race.  The Starting Stall Certificate has been revoked by the Starter.
